2011 Missions Fair

Monday, April 4 marks the date of our annual Mission Fair, which will be held in the chapel during our regularly-scheduled Common Ground time of 11:00am – 11:50am. Connect with representatives from missions organizations offering short-term and long-term ministry opportunities globally and locally here in Denver.  This is the most organizations we’ve ever featured – each with information awaiting the curious.  Discover opportunities to volunteer and serve, and learn about how you can meet the needs of the world and your community here in Colorado.

Brown Bag Lunch Discussion with Chris Horst

Explore the world of microfinance with Christ Horst from HOPE International and DenSem StuCo on Monday, April 4^th from 12:00pm-1:00pm on room 118.

Rob Bell @ Denver Seminary

An open discussion with Rob Bell will occur on Friday, April 8, from 10:00am – 11:30am in the chapel.  Our own Dr. Scott Wenig, Associate Professor of Applied Theology, will moderate this discussion with Rob about his new book Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived.  Rob Bell is known for pushing the envelope when it comes to Christian thought.  This is your chance to be part of the discussion that has generated spirited debate among many American Evangelicals regarding established Christian beliefs.  To submit questions for Rob Bell click here.

PiM3 Spring Tea

Partners in Ministry3 is delighted to announce a Spring Tea to honor the wives of graduating students on Saturday, April 16^th from 10:00am-12:00pm in the Chapel. All wives of students are encouraged to attend. Email PiM3 to RSVP and/or if you also want to help out. This will be the final PiM3 event of the year. Please feel free to join us even if you haven’t attended one of our previous events.

Selah Gala Hoedown is Coming to Town

The 2011 Student Council Selah Gala Hoedown will be held at The White Fence Farm on Friday, April 29^th from 6:00-9:00pm. Join students, staff and faculty for a delicious multi-course meal, a raffle, line dancing, a photo booth and tons of fun for the whole family! Raffle Grand Prize: TWO tickets to see U2 in Denver on May 21^st. Each Hoedown ticket you buy comes with one raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets are $12 each.

Stop by the Student Life office before the week is over and get your Selah Gala Hoedown tickets for $12 before they increase to $15 next week. Kids (12 and under) are $5.

Counseling Services

The Dean of Students office has made arrangements with professional Christian counselors in the area to provide services for Seminary students and/or their families at low cost. Four to six sessions are available for $15 each. Fees for sessions beyond these are negotiated directly with the counselor. Visit the Dean of Students office for more information.

Join missions organizations from all over Colorado for our 2011 Missions Fair on Monday, April 4^th from 11:00-11:50 in the Chapel. On Tuesday, April 5^th from 11:00-11:50 President Mark Young will continue the conversation about thinking missionally as a Christian.

2011-12 Scholarships

April 1^st is the first priority application deadline for 2011-12 scholarships!  If you are currently receiving a scholarship that is not automatically renewable, you will need to reapply by this deadline.  Download the 2011-12 Scholarship Application Packet by going to www.denverseminary.edu/financialaid and clicking on “Forms.”  Contact the Financial Aid Office with any questions.

Need Loans for Summer?

The process to obtain federal loans for the Summer session functions a bit differently than the typical process for Fall and Spring.  Please take a couple minutes to read the Summer/Intersession Financial Aid page for important details on this process.  Please note that if you will be taking less than 5 credits during the Summer, May 1^st is your deadline to request additional loans (assuming you are taking at least 5 Spring credits).  Contact the Financial Aid Office with any questions.

Christian Thought Colloquium Lecture

Join moderator Dr. David Buschart and presenter Dr. Jan van Vliet on Wednesday, April 6^th from 12:00pm–12:50pm in room 120 for the lecture “The Waggoner and the Wagon: A Brief History of the Heart and the Head in the Christian Academy.” The lecture will be followed by a Q&A. Mentoring Conference

Take advantage of a rich resource for your own mentoring ministry at Denver Seminary’s next mentoring conference “Maturing Our Mentoring – Maturing Through Mentoring” on Saturday, April 9^th. NEW SUMMER 2011 COURSE – MJ 603 – Missiological Themes for Jewish Evangelism (2 hours)

This course provides practical insights for Jewish evangelism through a study of key themes and characters from the Patriarchs to modern day.  Date & Time: May 16^th-20^th, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm.

Summer Outdoor Leadership Courses

Two Outdoor Leadership courses will be offered this summer.  OL 500, Introduction to Wilderness and Adventure Programming, meets August 1^st-6^th.  The first day will be on campus, the rest of the week is in the field at Camp Idrahaje and in the Lost Creek Wilderness.  CO 656, Adventure Therapy, is co-created by the OL staff and the counseling department and fulfills requirements in both degree programs.  CO 656 meets April 6^th-10^th.  See the summer course schedule or email Dr. Brad Widstrom for more information.  Both courses are 2 credit hours.

New Counseling Licensure Elective

CO 656, Adventure Therapy, will be offered for the first time this summer.  This course is designed to introduce students to biblically informed therapeutic aspects of adventure.  It will prepare Christian counselors and outdoor leaders to prepare for therapeutic techniques in the context of wilderness and adventure.  It will benefit those in private practice, institutional, church, parachurch, and adventure programming contexts.  The instructor is David Condit. This course meets the requirements for 2 credit hours in most degree programs, including counseling licensure and the outdoor leadership concentration.

New PME Elective
PME 720, Intergenerational Ministry, will be offered for the first time this fall. This is a practical course designed to enlarge students thinking and understanding of what constitutes significant children, youth, adult, and family ministry as an integral part of a local congregation.  It addresses the need for strategic intergenerational mindset and strategies in combination with age specific ministry for faith formation. Anyone who intends to work directly with children, youth, or adults or those serving in senior ministry leadership roles will benefit from this class.  This class fulfills elective requirements in most degree programs. (2 credits)
